Rooney is Uunstoppable - Pique

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique believes that on his day Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is unstoppable.

The former Red Devils stopper knows the England international well from his time at Old Trafford before his Camp Nou switch last summer.

The pair go head-to-head in Roma on Wednesday evening as two of Europe's biggest clubs battle it out for the title of European champions in the UEFA Champions League final.

Although Rooney is not an out-and-out free-scoring striker Pique believes his tenacity and strength are the attributes that make his a world class forward.

"When he is focused he is simply unstoppable," explained Pique.

"I have never seen a player as powerful as Rooney - the way he goes past people, the intensity of his play, the runs he makes from the first minute to last and the shot that he has. World class.

"Perhaps he does not get the credit he deserves because he should score more goals, but he offers so much."

Meanwhile, Barca play-maker Lionel Messi is more worried about the players Josep Guardiola's side could be missing rather than who they will be looking to stop.

The Argentinian wizard is hoping the likes of Andres Iniesta and Thierry Henry can be fit for the Roma spectacle rather than worrying himself about how to stop the likes of Rooney.

"Iniesta has had a spectacular season and it's the same with Henry, who has scored a lot of goals. It will be a lot easier if they are there," he told Sport.

"I hope that both can be in the final, they are very important and deserve to play in a game like this. It would be very good.

"It's been my best year, without doubt. For the football, the play, for the goals and I hope to crown it with the Champions League.

"At the start it (the treble) didn't concern us much. We always took it step by step. Now we've won the league and cup we are going for it and we are going to enjoy this occasion. We want the cup, league and Champions League."
