Tomasz Kuszczak
Dealt with crosses reasonably well and made a fine save from Andy Dawson. One or two poor kicks, but will be pleased with his clean sheet.
Rafael
Earned an early ear-bashing from the boss after getting caught out of position. Going forward, however, he did well, providing a number of dangerous crosses from the right.
Gary Neville
Shifted into the middle to partner Wes Brown, the club captain marshalled the troops well and kept Craig Fagan relatively quiet.
Wes Brown
A terrific performance on his comeback, Wes looked confident in the heart of the defence. Tackled well and was dominant in the air.
Ritchie De Laet
A storming debut from the Belgian. Showed plenty of attacking intent down the left flank but also defended solidly. Will have done his future chances no harm whatsoever.
Nani
One of the more experienced attackers in United's squad at the KC Stadium, the Portuguese winger was always hungry for the ball and delivered some crafty crosses. Took on free-kick duties in Ronaldo's absence.
Darron Gibson
Scored the only goal of the game with a terrific strike from distance but even before then he'd impressed with his array of long and short passes. As with his previous appearances, he proved he has what it takes to succeed at the top.
Darren Fletcher
Both teams' efforts were concentrated down the flanks, so Fletch didn't see an awful lot of the ball in Hull. Played the holding role and allowed Gibson to spray the passes.
Danny Welbeck
A strong performance from the teenager, who kept and used the ball well and showed good decision-making going forwards.
Lee Martin
A lively outing from Martin, who's always shown promise in the Reserves and on pre-season tours. Direct and dangerous, he's always a handful for opposition defences.
Federico Macheda
Went close on two occasions – Myhill saved one shot, while another rolled just past the post – but was perhaps too selfish once or twice. He appears to relish the opportunity to lead the line, however.
SUBS
Richard Eckersley (on for Rafael, 60)
Looked equally comfortable on both the right and left side of defence and even tried his luck at the other end with a shot that went just wide.
Rodrigo Possebon (on for De Laet, 79)
Slotted in seamlessly in midfield when Fletcher went to right back. Did the simple things well but was never stretched.
Zoran Tosic (on for Welbeck, 87)
Had a shot blocked almost immediately after coming on but otherwise wasn't on long enough to make an impact.
